Xhex has had to survive since day one. A half-breed child of rape whose mother killed herself after giving birth to a child she didn't want and would never be able to love, Xhex's life was not going to be an easy one.
Raised by a childless vampire couple, Xhex had a more or less normal childhood from her birth until it became apparent she wasn't fully vampire. Xhex left the family once she realized she was different from them and went to live at the Symphath colony with her true family.
Twenty five years prior to the series start, Xhex has a relationship with a member of the Brotherhood named Murhder. This is what Xhex considers her biggest mistake in her life. Because of the trouble with Murhder attempting to rescue her, Revenge, another half-breed ends up making a deal with the Symphath princess for Xhex's release. Xhex's family had sold her to a group of humans however for scientific experiments before this happened.
The humans were, for the most part, good to her however there was one sadist in the group who took delight in tormenting her. She was fed human blood, which is enough to survive on but not enough to keep up her strength. Eventually, someone helped her escape and she later returned to burn the place to the ground killing the one scientist in the process.
Action girl (although she’d kick your ass for using the term):
Xhex is the head of security, best friend, and self-appointed body guard to the only other half breed vampire/Symphath in town who just happens to be the owner ZeroSum, a club offering specific services: gambling, prostitution and high quality illegal drugs
She takes her job very seriously and enjoys getting to knock heads of anyone who gets out of hand. It’s a good way to keep her Symphath nature under control in small amounts and when trouble happens, she’s able to cut the shit and take care of things.
Xhex has no issue with taking on the dirtier jobs for Rehvenge so he can keep up his upstanding reputation in the vampire society in which they live. She has tortured and killed when needed. This included taking out the boyfriend of one of the girls who used to work at SumZero after he killed her. His death was extremely painful and bloody.
No one, and I do mean no one, is above having Xhex get in their face. The Black Dagger Brotherhood are described as being as massive as anything and scary as fuck. Xhex has no issue getting into their space and putting them into place. She is not a social butterfly that needs to be protected and has the confidence and skills to fight alongside the Brothers later in the series.
Loyal to a fault:
Xhex takes her obligations seriously. She and Rehvenge have kept themselves separate from relationships with any others since the mess regarding Murhder. It is stated that she has fed him, and it is understood that she has fed from him as well. There was even an attempt at a relationship between the two, but they were not compatible.
Since the day Rehvenge made his deal with the Symphath princess, Xhex has tried to care and protect him. She feels responsible for his once a month whoring session and payment to the princess in blood rubies.
The girls who work at SumZero are treated like equals, not just working commodities. They may be whores, but they say who they spend time with. When one of the girls shows up with signs of abuse, Xhex explains to the boyfriend just what he can expect if she comes back like that again. Later, when the girl turns up dead, Xhex makes good on her promise.
Once it becomes apparent that Rehvenge is going to have to finally submit to the princess’s demands he makes Xhex promise to take care of a certain female. She agrees without finding out just who, thinking he means the female vampire he’d been attracted to. After Rehvenge fakes his own death, Xhex receives a letter from him saying he meant Xhex herself. She was not to go after him but live a free life in his place.

As a half-breed, Xhex can go out in sunlight which later in canon makes her a very important part of the fight against their enemies. She's also a very skilled fighter and trained assassin, dangerous with knives, throwing stars, and various torture devices.

Many would think the head of security in a place like ZeroSum would have a better office, but this worked just fine for Xhex. She wasn’t one for all the frills, what did she need with anything other than her desk and a couple of chairs? Okay, so there were a couple of cabinets in the room as well, but they were mainly for looks.
She didn’t spend enough time in the room for it to matter. Security took place on the floor, not in the back rooms, and she preferred to be out among those who needed reminding they were guests even if they had paid to come in.
As she left to make her rounds, there was a prayer to the Scribe Virgin that the evening would be mostly uneventful. Xhex had no problem kicking the ass of any idiots who couldn’t hold their alcohol or who didn’t understand that when the girls said no, they meant no. However, they were still having an issue with someone bringing drugs in from outside the club. The night before had led to two calls to 911 over a couple of overdoses who learned the hard way about cheap drugs.
A walk around the common area of the club revealed nothing out of the ordinary; it’s not that hard to keep people in line when you dress like you could kick their ass. Then again, considering the fact that most of their distinguished guests were either human or pretrans, she could.
Up the few steps that separated the VIP section from the rest of the club, Xhex could see they’d already been granted the presence of some of Rehvenge’s favorite patrons. The Brothers weren’t bad as a group, and as long as they kept the one named Zsadist under control, she didn’t have any problems with them. They might be the be-all end-all outside. But in here? Well, she was the Head Bitch in Charge and they all knew it.

· live for almost 1000 years
· dematerialize to different locations (but are trapped by heavy metals like steel or lead and cannot carry large or heavy objects)
· are stronger and faster than humans and are often quite beautiful and may have unusually colored eyes and hair. They have no body hair below the neck.
